Winter Lights Festival at The Einar Jónsson Sculpture Museum
February 4.-7. 2021

The Einar Jónsson Sculpture Museum takes part in the 2021 Winter Lights Festival in various interesting ways. The museum's sculpture garden is the venue for the opening event of the festival, where the artists Þorsteinn Eyfjörð and Kateřina Blahutová, in collaboration with the museum and the City of Reykjavík, will stage the augmented reality audio-visual artwork Synergy. The artwork draws attention to the unique museum building and the works of sculptor Einar Jónsson, enlivening his legacy with light and colors.

Synergy will be on display from February 4. – 7., from 8 pm – 9 pm on Thursday the 4th of February, and from 6 pm - 9 pm on Friday the 5th - Sunday the 7th of February. It will be projected on the walls of the museum facing the sculpture garden at Freyjugata. Due to Covid-restrictions, only 20 people can be in the garden at a time. The garden is entered from Njarðargata.

We encourage everyone to come by the sculpture garden at The Einar Jónsson Sculpture Museum and experience Synergy at the Winter Lights Festival. The museum will also be open all exhibition days from 10 pm - 5 pm. So it is ideal to visit the museum during the day and view the sculptures in their traditional surroundings - and then come by the garden after dark and see the same works moving on the walls of the museum.

The Einar Jónsson Sculpture Museum will also be a part of the Winter Lights Walking Path, that runs from Skólavörðuholt, through the sculpture garden and downtown. At this year's Winter Lights Festival, special emphasis is also placed on art in public spaces, and Einar Jónsson's sculptures can be found in many places; Ingólfur Arnarson at Arnarhóll, Jón Sigurðsson at Austurvöllur, Outlaws by the Old Cemetery in Vesturbær and Breaking the Spell by The Reykjavík Pond are just a few of Einar´s works that can be seen on a walk around the city. In the sculpture garden by the museum, there are 26 bronze-cast works by the sculptor.

Do not let The Einar Jónsson Sculpture Museum pass you by at this year's Winter Lights Festival!
