The Icelandic Phallological Museum

The Icelandic Phallological Museum, located at Hafnartorg in central Reykjavík, is a museum dedicated to the collection and study of phallic specimens. Founded in 1997 by Sigurður Hjartarson, it began as a private collection and has since developed into an independent museum housing hundreds of specimens from a wide range of mammal species.

The exhibition brings together biological specimens, cultural artefacts, and references to Icelandic folklore, presenting the subject through both scientific and cultural contexts. Alongside the main collection, the museum includes interpretive displays and themed objects that expand on the role of the subject in history and popular culture.

In addition to the exhibition space, the museum features an on-site café and bar, as well as a shop with related items. Open daily, it has become a distinctive stop in Reykjavík, offering a focused and unconventional museum experience within the city centre.
