Whale Safari

Whale Safari is Reykjavík‘s original small group whale-watching tour operator, in operation since 2006. Their fleet of custom-designed RIB boats gives you the most up close and personal wildlife watching in Faxaflói Bay in the shortest amount of time. Offering whale watching by RIB from the 1st of April to the 31st of October, as well as puffin watching by RIB during the puffin season - 1st of May until ~20th of August. All of their tours are small-group, with a maximum of 12 passengers onboard plus an expert captain & biologist guide.

Hannesarholt

HANNESARHOLT was opened to the public in February 2013, after the project of restoring and recreating was complete. A restaurant and cafe are operated on the first floor, and our chefs prepare breakfast or brunch, fresh fish, vegetables, and meat for lunch, and our condition fills the house with the tempting aroma of fresh-baked delicacies. Facilities are rented out for private parties, meetings, courses, lectures, chamber music, and other small gatherings on the second-and-third floor of the building, as well as in the new assembly hall in the back yard, Hljóðberg.

201 Hotel

201 Hotel Iceland is located in Kopavogur, only 7 km from central Reykjavik. The hotel offers self-service check-in 24/7 and is within walking distance of a number of restaurants and Iceland's largest shopping mall (Smaralind). Our lounge is an ideal place to rest after an adventurous day in Iceland and our staff welcoming and helpful. Two of Iceland's renowned public pools are close by for a chance to relax and mix with the local crowd.

Student Hostel

The Student Hostel is located in central Reykjavik on campus at the University of Iceland. Open to everyone during the summer months! The hostel is within a short walking distance from downtown Reykjavik and its shopping street Laugavegur as well as the main landmarks in Reykjavik, i.e. Hallgrimskirkja, Harpa, and the Pearl (Perlan). The Student Hostel is on campus at the University of Iceland, with various services such as the University Bookstore, Bookstore Café, Hama (canteen), and the Student Cellar (bar). Student Hostel has 43 twin rooms, with city or garden views.

Tjarnarbíó

Tjarnarbíó is just over a century old, built-in 1913. The auditorium was originally an “icehouse”, at the time, ship owners built it like a fish factory and used ice from the pond to keep the fish fresh for export. The backstage area of Tjarnarbíó was Reykjavík’s fire station. During WWII the University of Iceland took over the house and turned it into a cinema, hence the name Tjarnarbíó (“Pond Cinema”). For decades to come the house would be used as a cinema, as a lecture hall for the University, and as a theatre.

The National Theater

The National Theatre of Iceland is a vibrant and dynamic theatre, that has been a leading institution on the Icelandic theatre scene ever since it opened formally in 1950. The NTI works with outstanding theatre artists from Iceland and abroad, and receives around 100.000 spectators each season.

Reykjavík City Theater

Reykjavík City Theater is the oldest theater company that has operated continuously in Iceland and is also one of the oldest operating cultural associations in the country.

The company season runs from September through June each year. The RCT stages 9 to 13 new productions annually, in addition to hosting a variety of collaborations with other theatre companies. Its audience tallies range from 150,000 – 220,000 per annum, making it the most popular theatre in Iceland. The RCT is subsidized by the City of Reykjavík.

Gerðarsafn Art Museum

Gerðarsafn is a progressive museum with an emphasis on modern and contemporary art, located in the heart of Kópavogur. Gerðarsafn offers temporary exhibitions with works by Icelandic and international contemporary artists as well as displaying the museum collection. The exhibition program echoes the museum‘s status as the only Icelandic museum built in honor of a female artist, Gerður Helgadóttir (1928-1975). The museum was built in memory of artist Gerður Helgadóttir (1928-1975) and opened in 1994. Gerður Helgadóttir was a pioneer of three-dimensional abstract art and glass art in Iceland.
