A vibrant theatre in the historical center of Reykjavík
The National Theatre of Iceland is a vibrant and dynamic theatre, that has been a leading institution on the Icelandic theatre scene ever since it opened formally in 1950. The NTI works with outstanding theatre artists from Iceland and abroad, and receives around 100.000 spectators each season.
Reykjavík City Theater
Reykjavík City Theater is the oldest theater company that has operated continuously in Iceland and is also one of the oldest operating cultural associations in the country.
The company season runs from September through June each year. The RCT stages 9 to 13 new productions annually, in addition to hosting a variety of collaborations with other theatre companies. Its audience tallies range from 150,000 – 220,000 per annum, making it the most popular theatre in Iceland. The RCT is subsidized by the City of Reykjavík.
