Gunnlaugur Bjarnason and pianist Einar Bjartur Egilsson perform love songs from various countries, spanning a period of more than 150 years.
Einar Bjartur Egilsson studied at the Sigursveinn D. Kristinsson Music School and Iceland University of the Arts. He graduated in the spring of 2013 and performed that same year as a soloist in F. Poulenc’s piano concerto with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra.
These days, Einar mainly works as an accompanist with various musicians, students, and choirs. He gives concerts regularly and occasionally performs solo works. In recent years, he has released two albums of piano music by Swiss composer Frank Baumann, as well as two albums with his own music, Heimkoma in 2015 and Kyrrð in 2022.
Gunnlaugur Bjarnason, from Selfoss, began his singing career with the band RetRoBot, which won the competition The Icelandic Music Experiments in 2012. A few years later he turned to classical music, and in 2020 he won the Vox Domini singing competition, earning the title Voice of the Year. Gunnlaugur is a member of the theater group Animato and has sung in three of their operas: Mærþöll, Gilitrutt, and Hliðarspor. He has performed widely, including at The National Festival in the Westman Islands, the Hafnarborg Song Festival, Kúnstpása, Ung Nordisk Musik, the Bergen International Festival, and many other venues. Gunnlaugur places great emphasis on close collaboration with composers and has taken part in the premieres of many works. This winter, he will perform with the performing arts group Óður in their production of La Bohème at the Reykjavík City Theatre.
You are warmly invited to a lovely concert on August 10th in the Nobel Laureate’s living room.
