"Take out your curling irons because Icelandic disco is back!
A brand new Icelandic disco band, Krullur, took to the stage with the song "Slappaðu af" and followed it with "Ef ég hárti að elska þig". Last July, the band released a six-song short album of the same name "Krullur".
The band Krullur was formed during the Creative Summer Work in Kópavogur in the summer of 2024. However, the paths of "Krullur" first came together at the High School of Music where they all studied singing under the guidance of Gulla Ólafsdóttir. In the process, they were inspired by the disco era, bands such as the Bee Gees, Earth, Wind & Fire, Boney M. and ABBA.
Krullur consists of Anya Hrund Shaddock, Benedikt Gylfason and Kjalar Martinsson Kollmar. Anya Shaddock has performed at various music events and on television. She released her first album in the fall of 2024, which was the album of the week on Rás 2. Today, Anya is involved in various music-related projects and is studying at the Iceland Academy of the Arts in the fall. Many people know Benedikt from the 2023 Icelandic Song Contest, where he performed the song Þora. He has been releasing music since 2021 and is studying songwriting at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. Kjalar also participated in the 2023 Icelandic Song Contest with the song Ég styð þenna braút, and that same winter he participated in Idol, where he finished in second place. Since then, he has been releasing music and studying singing at the Jazz Institut Berlin.
Long live the disco!"
