How does sound shape a space? How does light affect our well-being? In Bryndís Bolladóttir’s work, these fundamental elements merge into an experience that transforms the space and reveals invisible connections between material, environment, and perception.
The exhibition Photosynthesis is the culmination of an extensive development process based on Bryndís’s research into acoustics and spatial perception. She approaches architecture as a living system where the interplay of light and sound takes center stage. Her works emphasize well-being—how space can enhance our mood, reduce sensory overload, and create balance.
“I want visitors to feel harmony and grounding, and through references to nature, I aim to foster well-being and provide mental oxygen,” says Bryndís.
At the exhibition, her latest body of work, TYRA, will be premiered in a large-scale site-specific installation. The installation consists of numerous handcrafted sound and light panels that create a multi-layered experience. TYRA is being shown in Iceland for the first time, inviting visitors to experience space where sound and light not only shape the environment but also contribute to balance and well-being.
With Photosynthesis, Bryndís Bolladóttir invites us to perceive architecture in a new way—as a dialogue between space and body, sound and light, material and atmosphere.
