Low Key Loud brings together the softly rebellious, the quietly bold, and the loud in disguise—artists whose work resists, reclaims, and resonates beneath the surface. This group exhibition features 12 artists working across a range of disciplines—from painting, sculpture, performance, and video to textiles, photography, and installation. Each artist presents a unique voice, yet collectively they challenge what it means to be loud, visible, or disruptive in contemporary art. The starting price is just 100 ISK, and the event will unfold over a lively 20-minute performance. The proceeds from the auction will be shared equally in four parts — between the “nobodies,” the worker, and the gallery. Participating Artists: Katrín Inga Jónsdóttir Hjördísardóttir https://contemporary.is/ Recipient of numerous awards including a Fulbright Scholarship and the Svavar Guðnason & Ásta Eirkiskdóttir Art Prize, Katrín Inga holds an MFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York, a BA in Art History and Theory from the University of Iceland, and a BA in Fine Art from the Iceland Academy of the Arts. Her interdisciplinary practice explores themes of power, gender, and resistance. Harpa Jónsdóttir @harpa.jons A textile artist specializing in embroidery, Harpa has exhibited widely in Iceland and abroad. She is a member of The Icelandic Textile Association, SEW, and NTA, and her work is rooted in traditional craft, reimagined through contemporary sensibilities. No Buddies Crew An artist collective formed by graduates of the School of Fine Arts in Ioannina. Embracing spontaneity, humor, and anti-aesthetic, they create "something out of nothing"—disrupting norms with playful irreverence. Anton Lyngdal (Mr. Awkward Show / Opes_vs_vato) @antonlyngdal; www.antonlyngdal.com A conceptual artist from Reykjavík, Anton works under various alter egos and spans graffiti, glassblowing, painting, rap, video, and sculpture. His practice is layered, performative, and driven by cultural commentary. Laura Valentino @lauraval.artist; https://www.lauraval.com/ Based in Reykjavík, Laura works with pastel, encaustic wax, and alternative photographic techniques. Her meditative process and materials are deeply inspired by the Icelandic landscape, evoking themes of place, transformation, and memory. Deepa R. Iyengar @deepa_art_iceland Originally from the U.S., Deepa holds an M.A. in Fine Art from the Iceland University of the Arts, and an M.Sc. in Brain and Cognitive Sciences from MIT. Her multidisciplinary practice bridges science, memory, and sensory experience. She has exhibited in Iceland, the U.S., and Lithuania, in venues such as the Reykjavík Art Museum and The Living Art Museum. Borghildur Indriðadóttir An Icelandic artist and trained architect, Borghildur studied at the Iceland Academy of the Arts, AHK Amsterdam, and the Universität der Künste Berlin. Her practice blends architecture, theater, visual arts, and spatial design—often addressing socio-political space and perception. Anný Tinna Aubertsdóttir (ANY TEA) @annytinnaart www.annytinna.com A visual artist working across painting, photography, illustration, and graphic design. Her vivid, expressive works blend abstraction with figurative elements, drawing from both inner narratives and collective visual culture. Hertha Richardt @hertharichardt @thewitchandthesun Hertha studied fine arts, philosophy, gender studies, and creative writing in Iceland and Finland. Her work spans poetry, watercolor, short stories, and installation. She currently also works as a tattoo artist at Dul, merging language, image, and body in poetic forms. Una Gunnarsdóttir @una_astu A Reykjavík-born multidisciplinary artist with an MFA in Painting and Philosophy from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Her work is held in collections such as Statens Kunstfond and the City of Copenhagen. With a practice rooted in intuition, community, and critical theory, Una also contributes as a translator and educator. Sigrún Guðmundsdóttir @sigrun.g A visual artist working across painting, photography, and performance. A graduate of the Iceland Academy of the Arts and holding a master’s degree in Art Education, Sigrún’s work is intuitive, colorful, and emotionally charged, reflecting her dual commitment to creation and pedagogy. Maja Gregl @matahariexotic Acting curator of Low Key Loud and participating artist, Maja Gregl is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice has shifted from sculpture to a more introspective, body-centered focus. With a background in dance, her current work uses video performance to explore memory, trauma, and the politics of embodiment. Through presence, movement, and voice, she reclaims agency over her narrative, transforming performance into a means of healing. As curator at Phenomenon Gallery, she brings together artists and ideas that speak to layered expressions and shared vulnerability in art.
