When you think about Iceland you probably think of the vast nature, the volcano's, glaciers, lava fields and geysers. So it should come as no surprise that we have a day dedicated to our beautiful nature.
Iceland Airwaves postponed until 2021
This year’s Iceland Airwaves music festival which was to be held the 4th - 7th of November, will be postponed until 2021. This is due to restrictions because of Covid-19.
Reykjavík Jazz Festival starts the 29th of August
The annual Reykjavík Jazz Festival will be held from the 29th of August - 5th of September. The festival hosts performances in a variety of styles, from contemporary jazz and the avant-garde to Latin jazz, gospel and big bands.
Iceland is the most peaceful country on earth
RÚV reports that "Iceland is the most peaceful country on earth for the 13th year in a row, according to the latest Institute for Economics & Peace analysis. New Zealand is second on the newest list and Portugal third. IEP has been compiling the Global Peace Index every year since 2008."
A new geothermal lagoon
Construction is about to begin for a new geothermal lagoon in Kársnes in Kópavogur. Plans are for the spot to open in 2021 with a hot spring, a cold pool and saunas. Further construction will take place once the first aspect has been completed as the project has been split into four parts.
Population of little Iceland increases
Little Iceland is growing a little bit but there is still plenty of room to roam. "The number of people living in Iceland increased by around half a percent during the first quarter of this year to 366,130 people."
