Skátar and Grandmothers Records are proud to present a listening party and concert at Smekkleysa Plötubúð on Saturday, June 28th at 7:00 PM. This will be a listening to a new mastering and the first on their LP, "Heimsfriður í Chile: Hverju má breyta, bæta við og laga". Also playing live are Markús, Ólöf Rut and Synthea Starlight.
This will be a listening to a new mastering and the first on their LP, "Heimsfriður í Chile: Hverju má breyta, bæta við og laga" the mastering was made by Iceland resident and Grammy-Award winning mastering engineer Glenn Schick whose include works include albums by Of Montreal, Danny Brown, Killer Mike, El-P, Drive-By Truckers, Mastodon and many more.
The album title translates as "World Peace in Chile: What Can Be Changed, Added and Modified" includes songs such as Karnival, Dauðadiskó and Halldór Ásgrímsson, the latter a song about the Icelandic government's decision to put Iceland on the list of so-called willing nations in the run-up to the US invasion of Iraq in 2003. The name of the album came to the band in a dream by their late bassist Björn Kolbeinsson.
Skátar have been relatively quiet in recent years, but the band was most active between 2003 and 2009, releasing the aforementioned album along with "Ghost of the Bollocks to Come" and "Goth báðum megin". Skátar returned in 2013 at a memorial concert for bassist Björn Kolbeinsson, who died in an accident in 2012. In 2018, Skátar played at Norðanpaunk and live at KEXP at the Iceland Airwaves music festival. Skátar have played at music festivals such as In The City, Swn Festival and Aldrei fór ég suður, enjoying the favor of music lovers and media such as BBC, XFM London, KEXP, The Reykjavík Grapevine, Rolling Stone Magazine and others.
After the listening session, Markús, Ólöf Rún and Synthea Starlight will perform. The café at Smekkleysa will of course be open and you can get a variety of things to wet your throat.
Markús has sung with Skátar, Sofandi, Stroff and the choir Kliður but is probably best known for his music under Markús & The Diversion Sessions, which has released popular songs such as “É bisst assökunar” and “Seinasta teðurin”.
