In the guided tour, visitors are taken through the collaborative exhibition of the Icelandic Film Museum and the National Museum of Iceland, Picturing a Nation. The exhibition revolves around the events leading up to the establishment of the Icelandic Republic in 1944 and the celebrations on June 17 and 18, when the Republic of Iceland was founded. Films from the collection of the Icelandic Film Museum, which have not previously been seen by the public, will be explored alongside photographs, artifacts, and personal accounts of the events. These will be placed in the context of the nation’s experience during these significant historical milestones. The aim of the exhibition is to shed light on public participation and the atmosphere surrounding these important events in the country’s history. Gunnar Kristófersson is a research specialist at the Icelandic Film Museum. We look forward to seeing you. Free entry on Museum Night.
