Bríet celebrates the 5th anniversary of the album "Kveðja, Bríet" with a unique sound and visual artwork.
When Bríet released her first album Kveðja, Bríet in October 2020, she not only reached the top spots on the charts, but also redefined the soundscape of a generation. The album was crowned Album of the Year at the Icelandic Music Awards, broke streaming records, and established her as the captivating new voice of the nation. Since then, she has won countless awards, gathered over 46 million streams, and held concerts throughout Iceland and abroad, receiving fantastic responses. She has filled the largest concert venues in the country and demonstrated that she is both one of the most popular and influential female musician in Iceland in recent years.
Now, almost five years later, the artist does not celebrate this milestone by looking back, but by moving forward. memories, which was captured on 16mm film and only on one camera in an attempt to capture the most authentic moment possible. The final result of the film is entirely the product of the first attempt at recording to allow for natural mistakes to occur. The film was shot in the summer under Esja at Skeggjastaðir in Mosfellsdalur, where the vast nature and intimate atmosphere create a unique whole. The filming took place over 26 hours. This is less of a concert film and more of a love letter to the album itself: nostalgic, painful, and incredibly beautiful in its simplicity.
Hörður Freyr Brynjarsson directed, Stroud Rhode Pearce handled cinematography, Styrmir Hauksson took care of recording control and sound mixing, and the musicians Rubin Pollock, Þorleifur Gaukur Davíðsson, Magnús Trygvason Eliassen, and Tómas Jónsson provided the music. Alongside the film's premiere, Bríet is releasing a special vinyl edition of a tangible piece from a fleeting moment. The record is limited in edition and includes a live sound recording of the film. Pre-sales have already begun at brietmusic.com.
Admission fee is 1.500 kr. for ages 18 and over.
The installation is produced in collaboration with the Good Shepherd.
