In Denmark, several parties in the construction industry have come together to develop a regenerative transition plan for the Danish building sector: The Reduction Roadmap. The Reduction Roadmap is an Earth-shot project that works to translate the Paris Agreement and the Planetary Boundary for Climate Change into industry-specific reduction targets for new Danish housing projects. One of the two main speakers, architect Sinus Lynge, is one of the founders of the non-profit association Reduction Roadmap. He will talk about the Reduction Roadmap transition plan and provide examples of how it has been applied. The other main speaker is Harpa Birgisdóttir, professor and Head of the Division of Sustainable Buildings at Aalborg University. She has developed software that calculates the CO2 emissions of buildings and has conducted research supporting lawmakers in creating sustainability laws for the building industry. She is also researching the actions needed to ensure buildings are truly sustainable and do not exceed planetary boundaries. Elín Þórólfsdóttir, architect MAA, MA in environmental and resource science, and team leader at HMS, will then discuss the roadmap for sustainable construction, the achievements made, and the next steps. She will also talk about life cycle assessments (LCA) in regulations, how they are being implemented in Iceland, and their impact on the construction industry. The building industry and buildings account for around 40% of global CO2 emissions. Architects, individuals, and companies in Iceland's construction industry can work together to reduce their CO2 emissions by participating in the conversation and learning from those who have already found ways to start reducing their environmental impact. The Moderater will be Brynja Þorgeirsdóttir. She has twenty years of experience in broadcast journalism, mostly at the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service (RÚV). She is now a lecturer at the University of Iceland. After the lectures, there will be discussions, first panel discussions, and then guests in the audience can participate in the discussions. The symposium is initiated by the Architects Association of Iceland, in collaboration with The Green Building Council, the Housing and Construction Authority, the Center for Design and Architecture, the Association of Architectural Firms, the Federation of Icelandic Industries, and Viska-Trade Union. It is also supported by the Professional Development Center for University Graduates.
