Welcome to Museum Night at the National Museum of Iceland! A perfect opportunity to explore exciting exhibitions at the National Museum. On the third floor, the exhibition "Picturing a Nation" is currently on display, organized in celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Icelandic Republic. The exhibition features films from the collection of the Icelandic Film Museum, many of which have never before been seen by the public, alongside photographs, artifacts, and personal accounts from the lead-up to the founding of the Republic and the celebrations in 1944. The aim of the exhibition is to highlight public participation and experiences during these momentous events in the nation’s history. The establishment of the Republic was not merely an official political act—it deeply engaged the entire population, who actively participated and helped drive the events forward. The Museum Shop will be open, and special offers will be available at the café. We look forward to seeing you. Free entry on Museum Night.
