We’re hosting a workshop to enable children to make their own Bun Day Stick, just in time for the big day! All materials will be provided—sticks, scissors, crepe paper, and glue—so you only need a little imagination. Please note that there is only one Bun Day stick per child.
Free for children and accompanying adults during the Reykjavík elementary school winter break.
Icelandic Bun Day is just around the corner - always celebrated two days before Ash Wednesday. On this day, we eat large quantities of pastry buns filled with cream and jam, topped with chocolate icing. Children either receive or create their own “bolluvöndur,” a wooden stick decorated with paper on one end, which they use to playfully spank their parents while shouting, “bolla, bolla, bolla,” to demand buns.
Accessibility for people with reduced mobility is good at the Maritime Museum, especially at the entrance on the Grandagarður side. There is an elevator between the floors.
Bus number 14 stops near the entrance to the museum on the Grandagarður side.
