Ásvallalaug opened in 2008 and is one of the largest swimming centres in Iceland, covering approximately 6,000 m². The complex houses several sports and wellness organisations, including a gym, physiotherapy studio, the swimming club Sundfélag Hafnarfjarðar, and the sports club Fjörður.
At the heart of the centre is a 50‑metre swimming pool, which is usually divided by a movable bridge so that one half measures 25 metres and the other 50 metres. Families are well catered for, with a 17‑metre children’s pool (0.9–1.1 m deep) and a separate shallow pool for younger children, complete with toys.
The children’s pools are maintained at a comfortable 32°C, while the main swimming pool is kept at 28°C. Indoor areas are pleasantly warm, with an ambient temperature of around 30°C. Additional facilities include three indoor hot tubs, two outdoor hot tubs, a water slide, and a sauna.
Ásvallalaug is fully accessible, with a pool lift/elevator available for wheelchair users, ensuring that guests of all abilities can enjoy the facilities.
