Lágafellslaug (low-fell-pool)

One of the first places you should visit in Mosfellsbær is the Lágafellslaug swimming pool. This modern facility boasts a 25-meter pool, a children's pool, and a variety of hot tubs and saunas. The Gljúfrasteinn (canyon-rock) museum in Mosfellsbær, Iceland, is a must-visit destination for tourists and literature enthusiasts. The beautiful and historic building was the actual home of the Nobel-winning author Halldór Kiljan Laxness, his wife Auður and their children for over half a century. This genuinely one-of-a-kind living museum is dedicated entirely to the life and work of Halldór Kiljan Laxnes. Laxnes wrote such classics as Salka Valka, Independent People and The Atom Station. Gljúfrasteinn is built on the banks of the river Kaldakvísl and is situated close to Laxness's childhood home, Laxnes.

In September 2004 it was opened to the public as a museum. Visitors can take a guided tour through the house, and the museum hosts concerts during the summer.

As you wander through the museum, you'll be able to explore the unique living museum that highlights Laxness's life and career. You'll see where he sat, filled with inspiration, turning out page after page of his beloved novels and poems. You'll also come across some of his personal belongings, learn about his work and dive deeper into the themes and ideas he explored in his writing.

And suppose you're up for more outdoor adventures. In that case, one attraction you won't want to miss in Mosfellsbær is the Helgufoss (Helga's Falls) waterfall. Located in the country park Bringur, this waterfall is named after Helga, the daughter of the half-giant Bárður Snæfellsás, according to local tradition. However, the name may be derived from the word "helga," which means "holy," due to its connection to the old rectory farm of Mosfell. A marked hiking path circles the park, connecting the ancient farm ruins and the waterfall. The park is open to the public, but respecting the area's nature is essential. Be sure to leave it the way it was when you entered. Do your best not to intrude on the beautiful nature too much. And bring any waste or litter back to the nearest garbage bin where it best belongs.
