Álafosskvosin on a sunny day


Álafosskvosin is a small area in Mosfellsbær where you can find handcrafted Icelandic items like woollen sweaters, hats, scarfs, handcrafted knives, toys, sculptures and furniture. It´s located in a beautiful area with a great history behind it. There is a waterfall in the area and the Varmá river, which were used to drive the mills of the old Álafoss factory. There are three stores at Álafosskvosin which sell Icelandic woollen clothing and handcrafted goods.

The best way to get to Álafosskvosin from Reykjavik is to take road 1 to Mosfellsbær.

Álafoss Wool Store
The factory Álafoss was established in 1896 and marked the true beginning of Iceland's wool industry. Today, the original factory building houses the Álafoss wool store.  You will find a beautiful selection of yarn, wool sweaters, gloves, mittens, scarves, shawls, hats and blankets.
