HEIMA í Hafnarfirði Music Festival
HEIMA music festival, „heima“ meaning at home, takes place on the last day of winter each year in private homes in the downtown area of Hafnarfjörður. The music festival is rather unique where a number of musicians and bands play in different homes at two different times so ticket holders have time to meet the locals while walking to another home for another concert. The event usually ends with a final concert at Bæjarbíó, the oldest cinema in the country now functioning as a local concert venue.

The traditional Icelandic calendar only has two seasons, skipping autumn and spring altogether. According to folklore, the summer will be warm if there is frost on the night between the last day of winter and the first day of summer, which is celebrated on the first Thursday after 18th of April.
