This is a basic course in pottery making where instruction is provided on an electric pottery wheel. Emphasis is placed on practical training, but the course is also conducted through demonstrations. Each student is given access to a pottery wheel and works on projects that are planned in consultation with the teacher. The goal is for the students' pottery skills to improve as the course progresses and for them to be able to potter predetermined shapes before the course ends.
Students are introduced to the comprehensive pottery making process, which includes preliminary work, assembling potted objects, and potting. In addition, they are taught how to glaze and are instructed on the types of glazes that are suitable for potted objects.
It is hoped that the course will create a good working spirit and that the atmosphere is not unlike that generally found in ceramic workshops.
The course is designed with the needs of beginners in mind, but those with experience and knowledge of clay casting are welcome to attend.
The course will be held from June 3rd to 26th on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. However, the last class of the course will be held on Tuesday, August 12th, when carefully selected pottery from the course will be glazed.
