Guðrún Jóhanna Ólafsdóttir, singer, Helga Bryndís Magnúsdóttir, pianist, Francisco Javier Jáuregui, guitarist and six choirs perform songs by Stefan Sand with verses from the book „Dýrin á Fróni – Myndskreyttar vísur um algeng íslensk dýr“ by Alfreð Guðmundsson. The verses describe Icelandic animal species in a colorful way and are all in a style called "langhenda". Stefan Sand’s diverse music brings the text to life and you can hear, among other things, how the dog Húni rages around the barn on the farm where he lives and how the hen Vala clucks day in and day out. At the concert you will therefore get to know how diverse music can be composed with verses that are all written in the same style and get to know the animal species in a new way through singing and instruments. Costumes and scenery will be designed and created in collaboration with primary school children. This work will take place in art workshops led by ÞYKJÓ. The concert will also feature a work by Felix Mendelssohn: Psalm 42 for piano, soprano, string quartet & choir. Felix Mendelssohn says: “My best sacred piece… the best thing I have composed in this manner”, a work “I hold in greater regard than most of my other compositions.” The performers are: Guðrún Jóhanna Ólafsdóttir Francisco Javier Jáuregui Helga Bryndís Magnúsdóttir Hallveig Rúnarsdóttir Anna María Eiríksdóttir Isabella Liv Sigurgeirsdottir Hanna Kristín Stefánsdóttir Jóhanna Rannveig Jánsdóttir Mótettukórinn Hljómeyki Kammerkórinn Tónar Gradualekór Langholtskirkju Graduale Liberi Graduale Futuri Conductor and arranger is Stefan Sand.
