Ásta Fanney, artist with a work in progress, in conversation with the curator.
Ásta Fanney is now halfway through her period of working at Ásmundarsafn in connection with the experimental project Wonderland. We invite you to a conversation between the artist and the curator on this occasion, where you will gain insight into her methods and process thinking.
What characterizes Ásta Fanney's career is that things come and go, something is created out of nothing but disappears at the same time. She presents fragmentary clues – parts of a whole – in various forms that give us insight into her artistic thinking, aesthetics and subject matter. We see glimpses of what was, is and may become, amidst the ambiguous borders of the National Museum and the Hard Rock Café. Gradually, a picture emerges in our minds.
Ásta Fanney Sigurðardóttir is the second artist participating in the project Wonderland at Ásmundarsafn. Artists are invited to work for several weeks at a time in a kind of studio residency or project space. The participants have in common an emphasis on time and process in their works, and therefore their exhibition changes over the period. At the beginning of the year, Unnar Örn had a work in progress in Undraland and after Ásta Fanneyja, Halldór Ásgeirsson will take over.
