17 June National Day of Iceland celebrations

This year marks the 72nd anniversary of the independence of Iceland. We celebrate this event on our National Day of Iceland 17 June. The Icelandic Independence Day celebrations in Reykjavík 2016 will take place in the city centre from 10 o´clock in the morning until 18. p.m.

 

The morning ceremony starts with a Mass at Dómkirkjan Cathedral with blessings from the Bishop of Iceland, Mrs. Agnes M. Sigurðardóttir. The Mass is then followed by a ceremony at Austurvöllur Square with the Icelandic government.

 

Other celebrations will take place in various places in the downtown of Reykjavík.
