Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned runner, Reykjavík offers a wide range of running events to suit every level and interest. From the energetic streets of the Reykjavík Marathon to festive night runs like the Suzuki Midnight Sun Run, these events offer unforgettable ways to experience Iceland’s beauty while challenging yourself.
Many of these races are organised by the Reykjavík Sports Association (ÍBR), the leading body supporting sports in the capital. Established on August 31, 1944, ÍBR connects 77 active sports clubs—representing over 41,000 members—with the Reykjavík municipality. As a member of the National Olympic and Sports Association of Iceland and the Youth Association of Iceland, ÍBR channels municipal funding to support facilities, training, travel, and competitions.
ÍBR is responsible for organising major sporting events such as the Reykjavík International Games, Northern Lights Run, Suzuki Midnight Sun Run, and the Íslandsbanki Reykjavík Marathon. It also manages training slot allocation in city facilities, operates the Skautahöllin ice-skating rink in Laugardalur, and coordinates Reykjavík’s participation in the International Children’s Games and Nordic capitals school games.
With a variety of distances, routes, and atmospheres to choose from, runners of all levels can find the perfect Icelandic race and embark on an inspiring adventure through Reykjavík’s unique landscape.
