The Imagine Peace Tower is a striking work of art on Viðey Island, just off the coast of Reykjavík. Created by artist Yoko Ono in memory of John Lennon, the tower is a powerful symbol of peace and hope. It consists of a tall beam of light that shines into the sky, powered by geothermal energy, and is inscribed with the words “Imagine Peace” in 24 languages.
The tower is illuminated every year from October 9th, Lennon’s birthday, until December 8th, the day of his passing, as well as on a few other special occasions. Its radiant light can be seen from Reykjavík and far beyond on clear nights, creating a moving and unforgettable sight.
A short ferry ride takes visitors to Viðey Island, where they can view the tower up close, enjoy peaceful walking paths, and take in beautiful views of Reykjavík and the surrounding mountains. The Imagine Peace Tower has become one of Iceland’s most unique landmarks, blending art, nature, and a universal message of unity.
