Reykjavík International Film Festival
RIFF is Iceland’s premier international film event – the nation’s largest and most eclectic festival – dedicated to celebrating visionary cinema from around the globe. A vibrant 11-day festival held annually in Reykjavík, RIFF champions bold storytelling, bringing together both emerging voices and established filmmakers.
Operating as an independent, non-profit cultural powerhouse, RIFF offers a curated selection of groundbreaking international and Icelandic cinema across all formats — from feature-length dramas to shorts and documentaries. Its standout competitive category New Visions spotlights first- and second-time feature directors, with top honors—the distinguished Golden Puffin (Discovery of the Year)—awarded by an international jury.
Beyond screenings, RIFF facilitates meaningful connections through its Industry Days, which convene film professionals from around the world for panels, workshops, and market forums that promote Icelandic cinema on a global stage. The festival has garnered acclaim from international media, including Variety, Euronews, and Vogue Scandinavia, for fostering a distinctive engagement with Iceland’s cultural identity and inspiring creative exchange.
In addition, RIFF hosts an annual international film workshop for young filmmakers, Talent Lab, which runs for five days during the festival. Typically, around 40 participants from all over the world attend the Talent Lab. The workshop is a key component of RIFF and has established itself as an important platform for emerging filmmakers at the beginning of their careers.
Set against the backdrop of Reykjavík’s unique landscapes, RIFF offers not just a festival, but a full cultural immersion. See you in Reykjavik - at the movies this fall!
