Reykjavík Marathon
Íslandsbanki Reykjavik marathon is on August 24th for the 39th time.
The atmosphere at the Reykjavík race is electric, boosted by its timing with 'Culture Night' (Menningarnótt), a national event bringing many of Iceland's population into the streets.
Reykjavík, known for its clean air and geothermal energy, offers a unique blend of Icelandic charm and cosmopolitan vibrancy. The city, with its mix of modern and historic buildings, is compact and easy to explore on foot.
The race itself is relaxed and welcoming, with around 1,500 marathon runners and 3,000 half-marathon participants. The event also includes a 10K and a 3K Fun Run, making it suitable for all ages and levels. Despite Reykjavík’s small population, large crowds gather to support runners, with parts of the course offering peaceful stretches through Iceland's stunning natural scenery. The marathon passes through downtown, residential areas, and along the coastline, providing breathtaking views of the ocean and mountains—a fantastic way to explore the city and its landscapes.
