Performance Theaters

There are a few theaters in the capital area. The Reykjavík City Theater is the oldest one having been established in 1897. The National Theater is with the Reykjavík City Theater the main theaters which have numerous performances per year. Then there are a few smaller ones like the independent theater Tjarnarbíó, Gaflaraleikhúsið in Hafnarfjörður and Leikfélag Kópavogs which like the name tells you, is in Kópavogur. Furthermore Iðnó, one of the oldest remaining buildings in Reykjavík and housed the Reykjavík city theater to begin with, has a stage for performances, and Norðurpóllin in Seltjarnarnes has two stages for independent perfomances.
