The Einar Jónsson Sculpture Museum opened on 24 June 1923, making it Iceland’s first public art museum on its own premises. Einar Jónsson (1874-1954) was the first Icelandic sculptor to make a career in his art. He was a pioneer of Icelandic sculpture, who had a major influence upon Icelandic art. The museum’s collection comprises of over 350 works of art from Einar’s 60-year career as an artist, along with many objects relating to the life and work of the artist and his wife Anna Marie Mathilde Jørgensen (1885-1975).

Welcome to the Einar Jónsson Sculpture Museum located next to the iconic Hallgrímskirkja church. Outside the museum is a lovely sculpture grden where 26 bronze casts of works by Einar Jónsson are displayed. It is open 24/7 and free of charge.
