Volcanic eruption in Reykjanes highlands
An eruption has started in Geldingadalur (valley) near mt. Fagradalsfjall. It is a small eruption at a safe distance from the public and infrastructure.
The Department of Civil Protection and Emergency Management has sent a message asking people to stay calm and not under any circumstances go close to the eruption site. First responders need to be able to drive freely to assess the situation.
Scientists are working on assessing the eruption, the site, and possibilities. Flying drones in the area are strictly forbidden.
