Stockfish Film festival starts today
We screen around 30 hand-picked award-winning films during the festival and host various events and meet-ups geared towards industry members and film enthusiasts alike.
The festival is operated by a Board of Directors which includes some members of the major film professional associations in Iceland. The festival was founded in 2015, as a reincarnation of the Reykjavík Film Festival (Kvikmyndahátíð Reykjavíkur), which was established in 1978. It appeals to both people in the film industry and those who are interested in the wellbeing of international filmmaking.
Stockfish Film Festival aims to create a platform in Reykjavík to encourage collaboration between domestic and international film communities. Through the years a great many international award-winning directors and film professionals have accepted Stockfish's invitation to speak at the festival's many conferences, celebrations, panels, Q&A sessions, and master classes. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic this year the masterclasses will be online.
