New Year’s bonfires and areas for fireworks in Reykjavík
New Year’s Bonfires (Áramótabrennur) will be in ten places in Reykjavík this year and in a similar manner as before. You can join the locals and experience old age customs and traditions of the New Year’s celebration.
Locations for the New Year’s Bonfires in Reykjavík - New Year’s Bonfires are lit at 20:30 in all places except at Skerjafjörður and Úlfarsfell:
· Ægisíða
· Skerjafjörður, by the street Skildinganes 48 – 52 (lit @9 pm)
· Suðurhlíðar, below the Fossvogur valley cemetery
· Laugardalur, below Laugarásvegur 18
· Geirsnef
· Jafnasel
· Rauðavatn, at the north side
· Gufunes at Gufunesbær
· Kléberg in Kjalarnes
· Úlfarsfell, by Lambhagavegur, (lit @3 pm)
Attention is drawn to the fact that it is prohibited to light up fireworks and flares at the bonfires but permitted to have sparklers. Protective glasses and gloves are recommended.
There are area that are dedicated for the use of fireworks in downtown Reykjavík on New Year’s, it is:
· Skólavörðuholt - Hallgrímskirkja
Please be careful when using fireworks in crowded areas. It is recommended to use safety glasses when handling fireworks as well as gloves. Safety glasses can be found where fireworks are purchased.
