Food Hall in Reykjavík

Iceland's first food hall has opened at Hlemmur square in Reykjavík, thanks to a rapid boom in tourism and our fast expanding dining scene.

Iceland's first food hall has opened at Hlemmur square in Reykjavík, thanks to a rapid boom in tourism and our fast expanding dining scene. The food hall is located in the former central bus station in down town Reykjavík and is inspired by the long tradition of food halls all around Europe.

The area around Hlemmur Square has been under a reconstruction over the last couple of year and has now taken on a new role with hotels, shops, cafes and restaurants. Hlemmur Food Hall features among others smørrebrød deli, sourdough bakery, taco place, authentic Vietnamese street food and Nordic bar and bistro.

The food hall is practical for locals who now have a bakery, a vegetable and a flower stall on their doorstep and it's also the perfect pit stop for a light lunch or an after-work glass of wine.  The aim is to self-sustainable ecosystem of independent purveyors with a close collaboration between farmers, bakers, chefs and coffee brewers and to attract both locals and visitors.

I hope you will enjoy our culinary all around Reykjavík next time you visit.
