Hallgrímstorg 3, 101 Reykjavík

Listasafn Einars Jónssonar

5. February 2026

Open from 19:00–19:30

The Winter Lights Festival will open on Thursday, February 5 at 7:00 PM in the garden of the Einar Jónsson Museum, Hallgrímstorg 3, Reykjavík.

The festival will be officially opened by Heiða Björg Hilmisdóttir, Mayor of Reykjavík. On the occasion, Logi Einarsson, Minister of Culture, Innovation and Higher Education, will also give a short address to mark the recent merger of the National Gallery of Iceland and the Einar Jónsson Museum.

The opening work of the festival is Synergy by the art collective Mercury Maze Studio, comprised of Owen Hindley, Katerina Blahutova, and Þorsteinn Eyfjörð, and will premiere at the opening event. The work is an interactive video, light, and sound installation projected onto Hnitbjörg, the building that houses the Einar Jónsson Museum. In this multilayered piece, audiences are invited to explore the building’s architecture and the surrounding acoustics through a transformation of matter and spirit.

The work will be on view in the museum garden throughout the Winter Festival, daily from 6:30 PM to 10:30 PM.

All are warmly welcome.
