Linus Orri, representative of old traditions in Icelandic folk poetry, and Erpur, representative of new nuances, perform together at the swimming pool celebration at the National Museum.
In celebration of the recent registration of Icelandic swimming pool culture to UNESCO’s list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, the National Museum of Iceland is hosting a swimming party at the start of Museum Night. This is a significant milestone, as the cultural value of Icelandic swimming pool culture has now received international recognition.
Behind the registration lies a lot of preparatory work that was carried out by the National Museum of Iceland and previously the Árni Magnússon Institute, in addition to numerous swimming pool visitors, groups, associations and municipalities who supported the nomination in various ways.
National Museum Director Harpa Þórsdóttir, Minister of Culture Logi Már Einarsson and Guðni Th. Jóhannesson, former President of Iceland and benefactor of Icelandic swimming culture, will speak on the occasion.
There will be musical performances and light refreshments, and all are welcome, as with the National Museum's other events for Museum Night.
