In celebration of Culture Night, the presidential residence at Bessastaðir will be open to the public on Saturday, August 24th. The President and First Lady will welcome guests, and visitors are invited to explore the premises between 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM. Bessastaðir has a rich and notable history. In addition to Bessastaðastofa, which was built in the 18th century, guests will be able to view the reception hall and presidential library, which are later additions to the estate. The house features a selection of Icelandic artwork and examples of gifts received by the presidents of the republic. Also on display will be archaeological findings discovered during excavations, offering insight into the habitation of Bessastaðir dating back to the Settlement Era. Please note: Bessastaðir Church will be closed due to construction and ongoing archaeological work. The archaeology cellar will also be closed.
