Whales of Iceland will have special evening opening hours in honor of Museum Night!
Come and explore our brand new photography exhibition by renowned wildlife photographer Karim Iliya, "Risar Hafsins / Giants of the Sea". For over a decade, Karim has dedicated his work to documenting the lives of whales, returning year after year to the same waters to observe their behavior, relationships, and quiet intelligence. His photography offers rare insight into the world beneath the surface, revealing humpback whales as gentle, emotionally expressive beings with distinct personalities. From curious calves to regal, scarred adults, each encounter is unique. Now based in Iceland, Karim’s internationally acclaimed work - featured by National Geographic and beyond - invites viewers into a fleeting yet powerful glimpse of life alongside these extraordinary animals.
Also, join us in the Fin Whale Theatre for screenings of the short documentary "The Secret Life of Whale Falls". Have you ever wondered what happens to whales after their lives at sea come to an end? When a whale dies and gently sinks to the deep ocean floor, it begins an extraordinary new chapter, its immense body becoming a rare gift of nourishment in the dark depths, creating a temporary oasis of life on an otherwise barren seabed. The documentary is approximately 12 minutes long and will be played on a loop throughout the evening with Icelandic and English subtitles.
Plus, make and take home your very own origami whale friend in our craft corner. The café will be open for drinks and other refreshments. Free admission from 18:00 - 23:00!
