Friday February 6th from 6-10 p.m., Hafnarborg invites guests to celebrate Museum Night, welcoming visitors to the museum in the evening to experience the exhibitions and a special programme connected to art, nature and well-being. Two events will take place during the evening, offering visitors the opportunity to encounter live paper flower folding and take part in a deeply relaxing sonic experience within the exhibitions. Further details of the programme are outlined below:
6:00-7:00 p.m.
Flowers Unfolding – Showcase
Within Eggert Pétursson's ongoing exhibition at the museum, Doaa from Palestínublóm will create paper flowers in the gallery space. The practice draws on the same sensitivity to colour and form that characterises Eggert’s work, where the smallest plants become part of a vast landscape on the canvas. Visitors are invited to observe as the handmade paper flowers take shape and add to the flora of the surrounding artworks.
7:00-8:00 p.m.
Flowing Sounds – Sound Healing with Vala Gestsdóttir
Composer, violist and yoga instructor Vala Gestsdóttir leads a deeply relaxing session within Una Björg Magnúsdóttir’s site-specific installation. Through soothing tones, participants are guided on a gentle journey that moves the body’s energy, supports balance and presence and encourages inner calm while drawing on the restorative power of sound. Guests are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and bring a mat, pillow and blanket, with an eye mask if desired.
Museum Night takes place during the Winter Lights Festival, when most museums in the capital region open their doors to guests, offering a varied programme of events and entertainment. The cultural institutions of Hafnarfjörður – The Library, The History Museum and Hafnarborg – are among those museums that look forward to welcoming you, as in years past. For Museum Night, admission to all participating museums and related events is free of charge.
