Guided tour for families | Steina: Playback

Tryggvagata 17, 101 Reykjavík

Hafnarhús

30. November 2025

Open from 14:00–15:00

In Hafnarhús, we get to know the video artist Steina, and every child who visits the museum receives a small Steina booklet that guides them through the exhibition. The exhibition Steina: Playback is a collaboration between the Reykjavík Art Museum and the National Gallery of Iceland, and the booklet can be used at both museums. Please note that the guided tour will be in Listasafn Reykjavíkur, Hafnarhús. Those who visit both venues can also take part in a fun game — with a chance to win prizes!

After the tour it's ideal to visit to the playful green screen studio which has been set up for the Steina exhibition — a technique used to combine two images in a video. All materials are provided, but participants who wish to record with their own devices are welcome to bring them and get help from an instructor to install the right app.

Steina is internationally recognized as a leading pioneer in video and new media art; she is also a major influence on contemporary art in Iceland. Her work uniquely connects video art, music, and technology in ways that are both highly inventive and playful.

At all Reykjavík Art Museum events for children and families, it is expected that children are accompanied by adult family members so everyone can enjoy the experience together.

Admission with museum ticket. Free for Annual pass- and Culture Card holders, free for visitors under 18.
