Reykjavík City Hall

Cryptic Freedom Duo is the collaborative project of Brian DeGraw (Gang Gang Dance) and Professor Bear (Sean Linezo). Drawing from a shared history in music, film, and performance art, the duo works through minimalist, improvisational approaches to rhythm and resonant frequency, using flute- and synth-based sound palettes. Their live performances unfold intuitively rather than as fixed compositions, shaped by decades of durational and nomadic artistic practice, long-form sound exploration, and engagement with global DIY music communities, creating immersive, meditative, and trance-like states through sound.

Brian DeGraw is a multidisciplinary self taught artist and musician who lives and works in New York City. In addition to having exhibited, performed , and DJ’d in various galleries and institutions throughout the world for the past two decades he has also toured the globe since 2004 with his experimental music group Gang Gang Dance (of which he is a founding member) and has recently begun scoring films, most notably for three short films directed by Chloe Sevigny and for the feature length documentary on his friend the artist Dash Snow ( ‘ Moments Like This Never Last ’ dir. Cheryl Dunn ). DeGraw has released albums with 4AD, Warp, and the Social Registry among others.

Professor Bear (Sean Linezo) lives in Los Angeles, the San Francisco Bay Area and Pensacola, Florida where he is executive directing the launch of a nonprofit community (FM) radio station. As a filmmaker he continues to produce storylines for a conceptual and durational performance art series he began in the year 2000, known as The Staremaster Project. His other film projects document decades of a nomadic life and time spent with artists and indigenous communities. As a self taught musician, he is interested primarily in improvisation and the mental, physical and spiritual effects of rhythms and resonating frequencies producing meditative and trance states.
