Fishermen's Day in Hafnarfjörður
Fishermen´s Day is celebrated at Hafnarfjörður harbor for small boats (Flensborgarhöfn) on the first Sunday in June. The event honors Fishermen and fisheries in Iceland with a diverse program of events. Hafnarfjörður search and rescue team arranges rescue equipment for children to play, the local sailing club Þytur hosts an open house and lets families try rowboats and kayaks and artists by the harbor open their workshops.
Fishermen’s Day has been celebrated in Hafnarfjörður since 1953 as the heritage history of Hafnarfjörður mainly relates to fisheries. The annual Fishermen’s Day is a great opportunity for you to visit the Port of Hafnarfjörður which is full of history, art galleries and a great variety of restaurants.
