On Sunday, 17 August at 13:00-16:00, there will be a grand celebration at Árbær Open Air Museum, as both floral designers and members of the Icelandic Handicraft Association visit the museum. Guests will have the chance to acquire a bouquet of flowers freshly picked from the garden. Floral designers Blómdís and jóndís (Bryndís Eir Þorsteinsdóttir and Valgerður Jóndís Guðjónsdóttir) will teach guests how to design and assemble bouquets using summer flowers grown at the museum this season. Members of the Icelandic Handicraft Association will also demonstrate traditional crafts such as embroidery, spinning, and more in various museum buildings. Special attention will be given to floral embroidery, a decorative needlework technique used to adorn skirts, aprons, and bodices of the traditional Icelandic costume known as "faldbúningur". Floral embroidery is stitched following patterns that are either drawn or printed onto the fabric. Dillon's House Café will be open, offering delicious refreshments in a cozy atmosphere. The program runs from 13:00-16:00, but the museum is open from 10:00-17:00. Free admission for those wearing national costumes, children, people with disabilities, and Culture Card holders. Everyone is welcome! Accessibility: The museum’s footpaths are mainly gravel. Many historic houses have steps and thresholds. Service dogs are welcome. Public Transport: Nearest bus stop: Árbæjarsafn (1-minute walk). Other stops: Laxakvísl and Fagribær (5–6 minutes away). Free parking, including blue-badge parking spots opposite the entrance, is available.
