An official Fanzone for the UEFA European Football Championship 2016 in France will formally open at Ingólfstorg on June 10 at 6 p.m. and will be open to the public throughout the competition. All 45 matches (apart from those played simultaneously in the last round of the group stage) will be shown along with family friendly entertainment.
Ingólfstorg is located in downtown Reykjavík. The event is prompted by the participation of the Icelandic men’s football team in the European championship in France in 2016. This is a unique occasion in Icelandic sporting history, which will be showcased in the heart of Reykjavík.
The aim is to recreate on Ingólfstorg the atmosphere of the terraces at the football stadia in France and to add color and excitement to the city-centre experience. All the matches will be free for the public to watch in and around the square. In addition to the screening of all the matches on the big screen, there will be a range of family-focused football-themed events every day of the championship. Everything will be geared to families. Emphasis will be placed on introducing the younger generation to football through games and challenges organized by the Football Association. Scenes of the fun atmosphere on the square will also be televised in connection with TV coverage of the championship.
The event is hosted by the Icelandic Football Association, in collaboration with Síminn, Landsbankinn, Icelandair, N1, Coca-Cola, Borgun and Íslenskar Getraunir in collaboration with the City of Reykjavík.
