On the occasion of Culture Night, the dramatic film “Lay Down Your Arms!” (“Ned med Vaabnene!”) from 1914 will be shown at the Reykjavik Biograph Theatre at the Settlement Exhibition from 17:00 to 20:00. Admission is free and everyone is welcome. The film is silent and was directed by the Danish filmmaker Holger-Madsen. It is considered one of the first films in history to directly address a message of peace and the horrors of war. The film is based on the novel of the same name by peace advocate Bertha von Suttner, who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1905. This event is part of the Reykjavík City Museum’s diverse program for Culture Night. Accessibility is good in Aðalstræti. Please note that the lighting is rather dim inside the exhibition hall by the ruins, and the floor is uneven in some places. Guide dogs are welcome at the museum.
