The collaboration between the National Gallery of Iceland and Ingunnarskóli began in the autumn of 2024 when children from the Icelandic language programme for newly arrived students were invited to visit the museum regularly throughout the winter as part of the project Stay and turn to stone! Folklore in Icelandic Art. The project focused on cultural heritage—folktales and artworks related to them—while also sharing folktales from different parts of the world. Teachers from the school worked alongside the museum's education team throughout the program, emphasizing on education, creative art workshops, and positive experience at the museum. Icelandic language programme for newly arrived students is a special program for foreign students who have recently moved to Iceland, with a focus on Icelandic language instruction and adaptation to the Icelandic school system. The group consists of children aged 10-16 who collectively speak 11 different languages.
