Welcome to an exhibition during the Children's Culture Festival!
An exhibition of children's works based on the instructions of teenagers. The exhibition "How do I tell a Story?" showcases the works of six-year-olds that they made based on the instructions of teenagers in Hólabrekkuskóli primary school – “Friendschool” of the Nordic house. The works are the result of a long-term project related to the methods of "The Bookworm" - a Nordic database of educational materials related to books nominated for The Nordic Council Children and Young People’s Literature Prize.
Tenth grade students learned about "The Nordic Bookworm" (bokslukaren.org) through a visit to the exhibition "The Tree" - which is currently on display at the Nordic House Children's Library. The exhibition features drawings and illustrations from different Nordic picture books.
Students in the tenth grade received instruction and practiced the methods of the "Nordic Bookworm" and received a training in visual literacy by reading in pictures, with the help of teaching material on the Nordic bookworm database (bokslukaren.org).
With the help of the teaching materials - also available in Icelandic, they were able to understand what the books were about, even though they were all in different Nordic languages. After completing training in visual literacy and exercises in the creation of educational material - the project continued at the school in collaboration with the teachers.
The students of the tenth grade chose Icelandic picture books that they made educational material about, for the youngest class of the school. The mediator of arts and culture at the Nordic House along with a visual artist then came to Hólabrekkuskóli and assisted the six-year-old students with the creative implementation of the projects that the tenth grade students had created for them. The result is an exhibition of children's works that can be seen in the children's library and the library of the Nordic House.
It will also be possible to see the projects and instructions that the tenth grade gave to them.
The exhibition is suitable for all ages, starting from 3 years old. Guided tours can be booked for groups from 3 years old, through the booking page of the Nordic house or by emailing: hrafnhildur@nordichouse.is.
