Passports & Visas

Before you travel to Reykjavík it’s important to be aware of the passport and visa regulations regarding entry to Iceland.

All visitors to Iceland must carry a valid passport.

Nationals of EEA (European Economic Area) countries need not apply for a visa, it will suffice to have a passport that is valid during the time of their stay. However nationals outside the EEA need to have a passport that is valid for at least three months beyond the intended date of departure from Iceland.

Iceland joined the Schengen states on March 25, 2001. Visitors from non-Schengen countries who require a visa to visit the Schengen area must apply for a visa before travelling to Iceland

For more information about visa applications, visit The Icelandic Directorate of Immigration website.
