The Reykjavík City Museum offers a guided tour of Aðalstræti for people who are learning Icelandic. The tour will take place on Saturday, 8 November from 14:00 to 15:00. Katleen Abbeel will lead the tour in easy-to-understand Icelandic. At Aðalstræti 10 and 16, there is an exhibition about how Reykjavík has changed from the time of settlement to the present day. The tour begins at Aðalstræti 16, where there is a ruin of a house from the 10th century and an exhibition about the lives of Reykjavík’s first inhabitants. The tour continues to the oldest house in downtown Reykjavík, Aðalstræti 10, where there is an exhibition about the development of Reykjavík up to the present. Katleen Abbeel speaks Icelandic as a second language. She is a guide, translator, and Icelandic teacher. The museum is a great place to practice Icelandic. These words will be used during the tour: - torfhús / turf house - rúst / ruin - rostungur / walrus - músagildra / mousetrap - latína / Latin The tour is free and intended for people learning Icelandic, both beginners and more advanced learners. More information about the exhibition: https://borgarsogusafn.is/syningar/adalstraeti Accessibility at Aðalstræti is good. Please note that lighting is low in the exhibition hall with the ruin, and the floor there is uneven. Service dogs are welcome in the museum. Public transport: The nearest bus stops are MR and Ráðhúsið (2–5 minutes walking distance).
