Elínborg Una Einarsdóttir and María Jóngerð Gunnlaugsdóttir invite pedestrians to participate in their artistic research SJHALLÓ by listening to their performance of the song Shallow by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper and document their experience.
This summer Elínborg Una Einarsdóttir and María Jóngerð Gunnlaugsdóttir will perform the song Shallow by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper 100 times around the city of Reykjavík and document audience response to the performance. Elínborg and María met in the Iceland University of the Arts where they both study Theatre and performance making. Soon after starting their studies they bonded over the fact that both of them absolutely cannot sing. The project is a summer long research on the impact of context on audience phenomenological perception of an artwork where the Performance of failure comes into play. The project is both a research and a process for Elínborg and María but also the audience but by that the focus shifts from a final product and the performance gains an independent life that continues after the performance is over. Examples of places where Elínborg and María plan to sing are swimming pools, bars, nursery homes and malls.
