Stökk – Release concert
Kristján Martinsson (1986) is a versatile Icelandic, pianist, flutist, composer and multi-instrumentalist based in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
With K Tríó Kristján built up international recognition as a composer and a jazz pianist. In 2008 K Tríó received the award “Young Nordic Jazz Commets”. The album Meatball Evening won three Icelandic Music Awards in 2013. After obtaining his Master’s degree at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam (2014), Kristján continued to perform frequently on stages worldwide as a bandleader and side man.
Since 2021, Kristján has immersed himself in developing his solo works. Kristján’s new music has the piano and the flute in the spotlight. These works have a melancholic widescreen sound to them. The focus is not only on jazz, but a broader perspective of musical styles. Genres such as “melodic-classical, indie-jazz, icelandic-atmospheric, neo-romantic and soft-electronic” are now on offer.
Kristján’s first solo album “Stökk” will be released in August 2022 on Vinyl with Reykjavík Recordshop. The title can be translated as a jump in a new direction.
