Gadus Morhua has so far turned old Icelandic folk songs both inside and out and mixed them together with baroque tunes. Indeed, the decadent interweaving of Icelandic bath house heritage and baroque music, mixed with original new constructions of words and tones within the same soundscape, are the trio’s main focus.
Now, they tackle popular songs of the late 19th and early 20th century, particularly the collection by Sigfús Einarsson and Halldór Jónasson from the years 1915-1916. This song collection became so popular that it was sung in every home for decades. The popularity of the collection is perhaps falling with the decline of singing in Icelandic homes. Undeniably, they are still dear to people and known to many. Gadus Morhua makes this song collection the focus of his new repertoire in 2022.
